Best Places to Live in Baltimore City

Locust Point

This is a great neighborhood for upper 20s - 30 year-olds. It's a more calm, relaxed atmosphere with Latrobe Park for walking around. It is on a peninsula surrounded by water which makes it one of the safest parts of the city. The very end of the peninsula is Fort McHenry, which is another park you can walk or run around. The sunset and sunrise at the Under Armour Promenade is one of the other highlights of this part of the city. This neighborhood feels like you are in a small town, but everything is walkable, including a grocery store. A lot of families live here too. Parking is fairly easy in Locust Point.

Federal Hill/Otterbein

Directly next to Locust Point is Federal Hill. This is a great neighborhood for early 20 year-olds who like to go out and party late at night. It has Federal Hill Park and Riverside Park where you will see a lot of dogs being walked. It is also near the Ravens Stadium. Otterbein is a small, 4 block-wide part of town that is very close to the Inner Harbor and Camden Yards. This is one of my favorite neighborhoods but safety can be an issue here. Federal Hill and Otterbein are close to I-95 for commuting purposes. A lot of families live in Otterbein too. Parking is really good in Otterbein but is difficult in Federal Hill.

Fell's Point

Fell's Point is one of the cutest parts of town for its history and its great view of the water. It is great place for mid 20 year-olds to go out at night. It is close to the heart of the city, so it is close to I-83 for commuting purposes out of the city. The closer to the water the better for safety. Parking is difficult in this part of town.

Canton

Canton is great for all ages to live, but especially mid to upper 20 year-olds. Canton Square is a fun place to hang out during the day and in the evening for going out. Canton has the very large Patterson Park, and the Waterfront Park for walking around. This area is more of a suburbs/busier side of the city but it is also very close to I-95 for commuting. A lot of families live here too. Parking is difficult in this part of town.

Harbor East

Harbor East is the most luxurious side of Baltimore City. I have seen people of all ages come to this side of town. The apartments are very nice, with upscale shopping and dining. It is close to the heart of the city, so it is helpful to use I-83 for commuting. Parking is moderately difficult in this part of town.

Hampden

Hampden is the more eclectic part of town. It is further north of the heart of the city, but still has those city feels with everything being walkable. It is great for all ages to live. The Hon Fest happens every year in late spring/early summer, and Miracle on 34th Street is between Thanksgiving and New Years; these events really show off the Hampden vibe with its close-knit community. Hampden is right off of I-83 for commuting which can get you to the north side of the Baltimore Beltway pretty quickly. Parking is fairly easy in this part of town.
